R I C C I A R D I   R E S I D E N C E

Phillip and Kaye Ricciardi are the two kindest people I have ever met.  Philip was just beginning to enjoy his retirement from a career of teaching high school woodworking.  They had lived on a beautiful property in the heart of Golden for several decades, and had raised their son there.  They loved their property and they had no intention of ever leaving. They also did not expect to come home one day and see water rising to the level of their roof in a freak flood.

After the flood, we learned that they had no flood insurance to replace the home.  There was an outpouring of support in our community, and Ewers Architecture stepped forward to design their new home at no cost. Working with them in this endeavor was one of the most rewarding projects we have undertaken, and we feel we have been more than fairly compensated with their appreciation.

Through negotiations with the city, we were able to create a buildable area on their site that was on higher ground, above the newly discovered flood plain. The design for the new structure includes a basement that is fortified against any rising waters, and allows the main floor of the house to be situated high above the level of their previous home.

Based on a sketch by Phillip, the house fulfilled the dreams of what their new home could be, including:

- Craftsman style with natural stone and stucco exterior.

- Widow's walk top floor with 360 degree window.

- Gracious and well-appointed living spaces

- Covered porches at the front and rear.

- Deck overlooking the lower part of their yard, wrapping around a mature tree.

We are proud of this house – a house the fits in the old neighborhood, provides a sanctuary for a deserving family, and gave us an opportunity to make a difference in their lives.

"Peter, you were always one hundred percent professional throughout this entire

project, and even though you were donating all of your time, talent, expertise and

supplies, you treated our project as if we were paying clients.  You single

handedly recognized our situation and condition and purposed early on in

the process to make our dream become reality."
