This project began with a blank slate—a 1960s ranch style home without much flare.  The owners are a young couple who recently purchased the the home only because of the view, yet they desired a home that would reflect their aesthetic values of simple, clean lines — spaces that would show off the artwork they have collected in their travels.  They both work in the medical field and needed a respite from their high pressure workplaces.

Ewers Architecture sculpted a three-story addition rotated from the angles of the existing house so the floor-to-ceiling glass could respond to the view as well as the warmth of the south sun.  The addition is anchored by a masonry wall exposed on the exterior and interior.  This wall not only adds intrigue to the home, it also serves as thermal storage for the new sunspaces.

The result is a spectacular dining area, enlarged kitchen, and open living area on the main floor, plus the new upper floor hosts the master suite with breathtaking views and a large deck.

Whether you are in the dining room, on the deck, laying in bed in the master suite, or taking a bath, the views from this house are exactly what the doctors ordered.
