new exterior
"I have found Ewers Architecture to be very attentive to our needs as a municipality. They are both creative and good listeners, qualities which are often mutually exclusive.
Ewers Architecture was tasked with creating a "green" and functional space that retained all of the building's historical elements. The results were astounding.
Through creative redesign and use of space the City of Golden office is now a City wide model of sustainable design while also meeting the needs of a unique client base; and it was finished on time and on budget."

City of Golden

This building is a small jewel of a bygone era. When the City of Golden asked us for help to create a new modern and efficient office from this historic shell they did not have to ask twice. The City’s desire is not only to provide handicap accessibility and renovate the worn-out interior space, but also transform the building into a celebration of the important cemetery that it serves. And with the City’s new emphasis on sustainable design and construction, they would like this project to be a study in energy efficiency and sustainability.

Sustainable features include a ground source heat pump to provide heating and cooling, all lighting is LED, closed cell spray polyurethane foam insulation to provide high levels of insulation as well as seal a previously leaky building, triple pane fiberglass windows, and renewable interior finishes such as cork floors and beetle-kill pine.

The City once considered abandoning this gem and moving into a modular office. Instead, with this project the cemetery and the City take a giant step forward to sustainability and timeless beauty.
