SMALL PROJECTS
We enjoy working on projects of all sizes. Whether we are increasing curb appeal with a new front porch, remodeling an office to maximize space, popping a top, or adding an ADU … we experience joy in creating efficient and beautiful projects. No project is too small.
We have designed nearly 1000 projects, and we can only show a few here. If you have an idea for a project of any size, let’s talk and see how we can work together to make your space work better for you.
POP-TOP #1
This historic home in downtown Golden was originally built in 1868. Through multiple additions and poor maintenance in recent decades, the home was ready for renovation. A full renovation of the main floor, plus a new upper floor set toward the rear of the home to respect the historic frontage, provided exactly what was needed to return the property to its historic importance.
POP-TOP #2
This home backs up to North Table Mountain open space but standing in the old living room you would not have known it. With careful replacement of the roof over the living room, we were able to provide clerestory windows that allow interior views up to the top of the mountain… seeing the mountain touch the sky is the excitement of the view. And a new primary suite above the existing bedroom wing provided all the space our client needed.
FACELIFT #1
The only desire for this project was to update the original 1970s façade to a more modern appearance. No interior work at all, just update the appearance to bring a smile to our client’s face when they arrive home and see their beautiful abode. Our goal is that all our clients will arrive home and say “wow, I get to live here.”
ADU #1
Ewers Architecture was hired by the City of Longmont to create three designs for Accessory Dwelling Units in their city. With options for at-grade and over-the-garage designs, there are a myriad of options. If you live in Longmont, we have a full set of construction documents pre-permitted and waiting for you to start building. Ewers Architecture is your ADU expert.
ADU #2
This Golden family was in search of multi-generational living, where the grandparents could visit for longer periods of time and have their own space, while being close enough to share lives together. This ADU provides a generous and modern space to enjoy their family while they also enjoy the views.
ADU #3
Our client wanted to maximize the awesome location of their business property in downtown Golden, and placing a rental on the rear of their lot provided the extra income they desired. This 280-square-foot Tiny House is a perfect spot for people who don’t need a lot of space but want to be in the middle of Golden’s vibrant downtown. If you want to rent here, get in line… it is a gem that is never vacant for long.
ARTIST STUDIO #1
Ewers Architecture had just completed a renovation and addition to the main house on this property to create a mother-in-law residence for multi-generational family living. The final step in the master plan was to construct this art studio on the property so all living and work could happen in a wonderful, cohesive location in Morrison. The northern windows bring in the perfect natural light for his award-winning paintings that you may have seen at the National Western Stock Show and many other venues.
FACELIFT #2
After hail decimated their vinyl siding, the owners were ready for something different. Natural materials, a warm palette, the texture of real wood shingles, and a new front porch helped to create a nurturing environment where they feel their home now matches their family values.
BACK PATIO #1
The interior of their house was fine, but what they really wanted was an outdoor environment so they weren’t locked inside forever. This new exterior living space means they can breathe fresh air while in an outdoor environment that makes their house feel so much larger. Not to mention it is just a fun place to hang out. It is like an entire Kitchen/Living/Dining room without walls.
FRONT PORCH #1
With a very simple addition to the front of the house, we allayed many previous wrongs:
1) Removed a greenhouse that was freezing in the winter and overheating in the summer.
2) Provided an appropriate dining area.
3) Provided a way to walk from the front door to the living room without walking through the kitchen.
4) Provided indoor/outdoor living. Sometimes it only takes one small move to make a big difference in how a home feels.
Pop Top #3
A young family, a tight budget, and a desperate need for more space. With careful planning and utilizing all the current spaces, we were able to construct a simple new upper floor on this split-level home. A new primary suite, another kids’ bedroom, and an open play area provided this family exactly what they needed, and at a price they could afford. We call that a win.
Pop Top #4
The owners of this modest home in Golden desired a new primary suite where they could capture the views of the table mountains, and they wanted the addition to blend in with the neighborhood. As we worked through the design process, it became clear that they really wanted something modern, and their aesthetic desires were more important than “blending in”. Some neighbors say it looks like a spaceship landed on their house, but our clients are pleased … and that makes us happy.
